Meperidine (Pain Killer)

From, “(brand name Demerol) and hydromorphone (Dilaudid) come in tablets and propoxyphene (Darvon) in capsules, but all three have been known to be crushed and injected, snorted or smoked. Darvon, banned in the UK since 2005, is among the top ten drugs reported in drug abuse deaths in the US. Dilaudid, considered eight times more potent than morphine, is often called “drug store heroin” on the streets.”

The problem with pain killers is that teens typically think they are safer to use than other drugs.

“Among teens, prescription drugs are the most commonly used drugs next to marijuana, and almost half of the teens abusing prescription drugs are taking painkillers.

Why are so many young people turning to prescription drugs to get high?

By survey, almost 50% of teens believe that taking prescription drugs is much safer than using illegal street drugs.”

I became addicted to paint killers after a shoulder injury. After I was not in as much pain anymore, I realized that when I was on them, things just seemed easier to do. I had 4 children and I was able to get much more accomplished. Pretty soon I needed them to function. My husband has severe back problems and doesn’t take his full prescription so it became easy for me to take his. Until I began taking too many and he would run out. I tried on and off for 10 years to get off of them and it almost destroyed my marriage. My children know all that we went through and are fully aware of what they can cause. My husband has a safe and all drugs are locked in it. And of course I don’t know the combination. These are opiates and in the same category as heroine. Many commit suicide over not being able to get off the drugs. While on them, I did so many things I never thought I’d ever do. I hope that others can learn now from what I went through so I freely tell people no matter the consequences.
